M C Squared workshops

In its three years course, the M C Squared project has successfully organised 42 workshops and many presentations in world trade exhibitions like BETT and EducaBerlin. Some are listed below:

  • An M C Squared workshop and project paper presentation, in the context of the International Conference on Mathematics Textbook Research and Development in Southampton, UK. In the workshop about 20 participants learned about the c-book technology and made their first steps in designing their own c-book. There were many positive reactions, with particular interest generated from Asia. At the same conference, on July 31, M C Squared presented a paper on the theoretical backgrounds of the project as well, with similar positive reactions, especially with regard to our approach to social creativity and the use of communication tools. (30-31 July 2014)
  • The workshop “Authoring Interactive Constructionist Activities and Learning Analytics as a Social Creative Process was organised by LKL, CTI and UU (led by LKL) in the context of the “Constructionism and Creativity 2014” conference. 25 participants learned about the project technology, reflected on the c-book concept overall and the projects’ contributions to creativity. Particular emphasis was placed on the data analytics objectives of the project with respect to potential contribution to the field of Constructionism in general and Creativity in particular. Part of the discussion revolved around ethical issues emerging. (20 August 2014)
  • A workshop held at the Fifth Central and Eastern European Conference on Computer Algebra and Dynamic Geometry Systems in Mathematics Education (CADGME 2014), Halle (Saale), Germany, in which participants learned about the project and then authored their own c-book. Although participants could choose their own topic, extra emphasis was put on the particular focus of the conference: integrals with a computer algebra system, or checking geometric constructions with angle bisectors. (26 September 2014)
  • A special workshop titled "Evaluation of Creativity Methodology" was organised by CTI in Athens, for discussing methodological issues on the measurement of Social Creativity and Creative Mathematical Thinking in the framework of the M C Squared project. (23-24 April 2015)
  • LKL organised a very well attended workshop on Intelligent Support in Exploratory and Open-ended Learning Environments at the 17th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education, in Madrid. The workshop focused particularly into how Exploratory Environments (ELEs) or Open-ended Learning Environments (OLEs) can be integrated in practice in teaching. It included an interactive demo and poster slot where M C Squared progress on feedback and learning analytics for creative mathematical e-books was presented and discussed with the participants. Dr Mavrikis presented the project and how it manages to go beyond the state-of-art limitations with respect to technology focusing only on foundational skills and addressed critical thinking, problem solving and creativity that the report highlights as high-order competencies where more work is required.  Everyone’s feedback was really positive and the possibility of using the tools more generally was discussed. Particular interest revolved around the event with a debate on the "World Economic Forum Report: New Vision for Education: Unlocking the Potential of Technology". (22-29 June 2015)
  • CTI organised the 2-day "c-book widgets" workshop, in Athens, in order to introduce CoIs to new features available, including logging and cross-widget-communication, in all widget factories. Members from all the M C Squared CoIs attended this workshop, which in fact resulted in the augment use of more and different widget factories in the c-book unit designs. (07-08 July 2015)
  • ARI organised an M C Squared workshop at “Les journées Nationales APMEP”, the French annual conference on teaching mathematics, held in Laon, France. (Oct 2015)
  • CTI with support from TL organised a workshop with c-book technology demonstration, for developers of digital games, researchers, academics, teachers and SMEs, in the framework of C2Learn Final Workshop "Meet Co-Creativity", held in Athens, Greece. (Oct 2015)
  • The workshop “Exploitation of 3D representations in Maths and Computer Science: The “MaLT+” widget” addressed to students, teachers and researchers, was organised by CTI and TAL in Thessaloniki, Greece. (Nov 15)
